Ryanair is cracking down on unruly passengers by imposing a hefty £500 fine for a flight in flight for bad behavior. The airline has declared this to be just a “minimum” punishment and will pursue passengers for further civil damages.
A Ryanair spokesperson said: “It is unacceptable that passengers are made to cause unnecessary confusion due to the actions of one unruly passenger.”
They added: “We have introduced a £500 fine to ensure that our passengers and crew travel in a comfortable, stress-free environment without the unnecessary confusion caused by only a few unruly passengers.
Ryanair has repeatedly called for restrictions on two alcoholic beverages per passenger to be introduced at airport bars in response to increased flight obstacles.
It claims to provide a “safer travel experience for passengers and crew.”
Passengers who cause confusion during flights can divert the aircraft, often costing the airline thousands of pounds.
Ryanair announced in January that it had begun taking legal action to recover losses from destructive passengers as part of what it called the “major fraud clampdown.”
He said he filed a civil lawsuit against an Irish passenger to seek damages of 15,000 euros (£12,600) in connection with a flight from Dublin to Lanzaroth that decoupled to Porto last April.
Ryanair claims that the passenger behavior caused diversion.
It said that the 15,000 euros consists of accommodations with over 160 passengers and six crew members (7,000 euros or £5,900), landing and handling fees for Porto Airport (2,500 euros or £2,100 pounds), and legal fees for Portugal (2,500 euros or £2,100 pounds).
