Ryanair is the preferred airline among many UK travelers, thanks to its cheap fares and huge array of destination options.
However, passengers need to be wary of being stabbed at an additional charge, especially when it comes to luggage, as they have strict rules regarding the size of bags that airlines can ride for free. Ryanair's current bag policy states that all passenger rates include small personal bags that can be carried on board, but must fit under the seat in front of them. If it's too big, you can bring additional luggage with you at an additional cost.
A small carry-on bag can be a handbag, laptop bag or backpack with a maximum size of 40 x 20 x 25cm. All bags of this size should be carried freely and placed under the seat in front of you. All bags larger than these dimensions face Ryanair's extra charge, so if you're a few days away, you'll need to fork a little extra for your luggage.
You can bring a small cabin bag with a maximum size of 55 x 40 x 20cm and a maximum weight of 10kg onto the boat. This should be stored in an overhead locker on the plane.
Bringing an extra cabin bag (in addition to small carry-ons) will cost you between £6 and £36 at booking, or between £20 and £60 after booking, or at the airport.
Ryanair can add a 10kg check-in bag if the option to add two cabin bags to your booking is sold out, but this must be dropped off at the airport check-in desk before passing security.
According to Ryanair, adding a 10kg check-in bag to your booking costs around £44.99, but the price may vary depending on the route and the date of your trip.
If you are on a long vacation, you may need to take a larger suitcase. In that case, you can pay to get a bag that is less than 55 x 40 x 20cm with maximum weight. This must be dropped off at the airport check-in desk before security.
Passengers can purchase up to three check bags of 20kg at booking at a cost of £59.99 per flight. Again, prices may vary depending on route and travel date.
Additionally, passengers traveling with their infants are permitted to carry two items of baby products for free per child. (Inclusive 8-23 month infants do not receive cabin bag allowance). The airline also allows baby bags up to 5kg, up to 45x35x20cm, the maximum size, for babies traveling on the lap of adults.
Ryanair said: “You must strictly adhere to the baggage allowance for your booking. If a small bag or 10kg cabin bag fits within the luggage sizes placed at all boarding gates, you will be paid for the baggage fee.
Customers bringing oversized bags – over 55 x 40 x 20cm – check in face with a charge of £/€70 to £/€75 at the gate.
