A recent graduate of Vatel Mauritius, Roux-Ché Shidute was inspired by a childhood filled with travel, family and meaningful connections. Her journey into the hospitality industry demonstrates her deep-rooted desire to create memorable experiences and contribute to the growth of Africa's tourism.
Growing up at her parents' bed and breakfast, Luce discovered her love for hospitality early on. “I enjoyed the rush of breakfast and met guests from every step,” she shared. But her most precious memories are family road trips to iconic destinations such as Victoria Falls, Cape Town and Botswana. These experiences motivated her to provide similar feelings of joy and belong to others through hospitality.
Roux-Ché's education at Vatel Mauritius combines theory with practical experience, allowing her to quickly adapt to a diverse work environment. “Studying in Mauritius added an extra layer of growth because we had to adapt to a new culture,” she pointed out. This balanced approach has well prepared her to navigate various aspects of hospitality, including customer service, team dynamics, and guest expectations.
Her favorite area within hospitality is currently hospitality marketing. “I enjoy using the insights gained from the hotel experience to connect with guests and excite them about their trip,” she explained. Her ability to communicate effectively was enhanced by studying French with Maurichan Creole, a skill she recently acquired an internship in France.
The natural man, Luce values connection, empathy and cultural diversity. Growing up in a multilingual family, she appreciates the importance of communication and sustainable practices. “I have a deep interest in maintaining a natural environment that attracts travelers, especially in Africa,” she emphasized.
Looking ahead, Luce aims to promote Namibia's tourism and hospitality sector. “It's very fulfilling to give back to the country that shaped me,” she said. Her goal is to support Namibia and Africa as a world-class destination that benefits the community and protects natural resources.
She chose Vatel Mauritius to focus on practical learning and global networks. “The structure of this program, coupled with the experience of authentic hotels, is prepared for the reality of the industry,” she explained.
Luce's passion for hospitality continues to grow, supported by her desire to connect cultures, celebrate diversity and promote sustainable tourism in Africa. Her journey highlights how early experiences and targeted education can shape future leaders in the hospitality industry.
