With views of the picturesque historic town and fairytale castles, the 220-mile journey through Germany has been named a “must-have” road trip for those seeking an unforgettable experience. The romantic roads take travelers from Würzburg to Füsen through Southern Germany, and highlights of the route include 350 Würzburg residences, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and the stunning walled city of Dinkelsview.
The five-day itinerary will allow you to spend plenty of time on the history and culture that is on offer, explained Harry Anapriotis, who has decades of experience in the travel and car rental sector. The CEO of Rental Centre Crete said of the romantic roads in Germany: “The roads are very maintained and well signed, making them perfect for the first European road tripper.
One of the biggest draws on the route is Neuschwanstein. This is a castle on a sturdy hillside in the mountains of Showtop. King Ludwig II spent the last 17 years of his life building a 19th century castle that continued to inspire Walt Disney's Cinderella castle.
The Romantic Path was named after the American soldiers of occupation years after World War II. These days it has become popular with road trippers, coach tours and cyclists. Travelers will be able to explore the quaint towns of the spa resorts of Lauda-Königshofen, Tauberbischofsheim and Bad Mergentheim and see the eyes of the beautiful Weikersheim Palace.
Other attractions include the fairy tale town of Landsburg am Reck along the River Rech, and Moofenwinkel, a church and monastery in the Shongau and Singarden area. Food lovers can try traditional Bavarian dishes along routes such as sausage, sauerkraut, sauerbraten and martashen.
History enthusiasts can enjoy the castle built on top of the ruins of a 12th century fortress, or Rothenburg ob der Tauber, with eye-catching fountains, spires and churches.
Anapliotis said: “Road travel offers special freedoms that are difficult to find anywhere else. For decades in the car rental industry, we've seen how a good road trip can turn a normal holiday into an unforgettable adventure.
He encouraged travelers to look beyond tourist hotspots for accommodation and dining, saying, “In many cases, the most authentic experiences are found at prices just a few miles away.”
