Italy is a country loved by tourists, and it's easy to see why. The country has a lot to offer, from stunning beaches with crystal clear waters to some of the best foods in the world. However, all this is overflowing with popularity, so it becomes overcrowded and some spots struggle with tourist numbers.
The good news is that there are still several places waiting to be discovered, one of which is the peaceful town of the Italian Riviera. The Northern Italian camouflage is a small fishing town near Genoa, still flying under the radar. Located in Golfo Paradiso in the Ligurian region, it is often overlooked by tourists heading to nearby Portofino or Cinque Tele.
Jiayi Wang, a travel expert who runs the blog Nomad of a Nomad, told the Express:
“The food is incredible and prices don't surge like they do in towns with more tourists.”
The camouflagees are built towards the sea and feature tall pastel-colored houses lined up on the beach.
These colorful buildings once helped fishermen find their way back from afar at the sea. Today they create the perfect background for postcards to the town's beaches and harbors.
The town is known for its slow pace, local crowds and peaceful atmosphere, especially during the week.
Unlike Bigger Resorts, Camogli is not commercial. You will find family-run restaurants, quiet streets and lively night scenes where locals enjoy the sunset at Aperol Spritz.
The Kamogri's food scene is one of its biggest draws. The town is famous for its focaccia, served with olives, onions, cheese or pesto.
Local seafood is also popular, with dishes like fried calamari, anchovies and grilled fish platters available for views at the restaurant.
There is also Farinata, a delicious chickpea pancake typical of the Ligurian region.
Prices are still relatively low compared to major tourist destinations in Italy. The food is reasonably priced and things get busy on weekends, but finding a table with a view is easy.
Food aside, there's a lot to see. Visitors can explore Dragonara Castle, walk to San Rocco Church for panoramic views, or take a hike to Punta Chiappa, a rocky outcrop with scenic trails and diving spots.
There is also a small Maritime Museum, with the Tronplail painted façade giving the town an attractive and artistic touch.
