Sydney, Australia – Tuesday, May 6, 2025
Qantas today announced a new international route between South Africa and Australia, with a direct flight from Johannesburg to Perth scheduled to take off in December 2025.
New flights that can be booked now will provide South Africans with direct access to Perth and seamless connectivity with popular destinations across Australia, including Melbourne, Brisbane and Adelaide, through a large domestic network of airlines.
Customers will also have access to a new one-stop option to New Zealand after the announcement of new direct services between Perth and Auckland.
Qantas has a proud history in South Africa and has been running flights between the two countries since 1952. The airline’s long-standing commitment to the market has recently been strengthened by the introduction of the Airbus A380 between Sydney and Johannesburg.
Comment from Qantas International CEO Cam Wallace:
“We are excited to launch a brand new route between Johannesburg and Perth, explore Australia, reconnect with family and friends, and unlock South African travel options, looking to discover somewhere new.
“By connecting Johannesburg directly with Perth, it offers easy access to Western Australia as well as seamless connections with major cities across its domestic network, including Brisbane, Melbourne and Adelaide.
“We also announced a direct flight between Perth and Auckland today, meaning that customers traveling from Johannesburg can now be one stop and reach New Zealand. With the introduction of these new flights, Qantas will operate daily between Australia and South Africa, providing travelers with even more choice and flexibility.”
