US express freighter FedEx exercised options on eight more Boeing 777 freighters, but reverted the Boeing MD-11FS' retirement for four years.
Carrier says he expects to receive three of the 777F in 2026, with the remaining five expected to be delivered the following year.
FedEx said in its financial return that its options were finalized in March.
“There are several aircraft modernization programs supported by the purchase of (777FS) and (767-300FS),” he says.
“These aircraft have significantly improved fuel efficiency per unit than previously used aircraft types, and these expenditures are necessary to achieve significant long-term operational savings and replace older aircraft.”
FedEx says there is only “limited” room to delay investment in additional aircraft without changing its purchase agreement.
The company also reveals that it has extended its retirement schedule for the entire MD-11F fleet, pushing it back from 2028 to the end of 2032.
FedEx also includes the 57 777FS, 143 767FS, 92 757S and 65 Airbus A300-600.
At the end of February, the carrier committed nine more 767Fs.
FedEx's fleet modernization also includes 10 ATRING options for 10 ATR 72-600 cargo ships that are being directed to deliveries between 2027 and 29.
