Surrounded by industrial parks, the modest bakery keeps people up early and sample their products. Petit Four Patisserie in Cardiff has created quite a bit of talk with baked goods since it opened. Some fans are rising to taste their offerings at dawn as well.
Hiding in the city's Freeman's Park Industrial Park, the bakery may seem unremarkable, but it has become a hot topic among locals. The man behind the magic is award-winning bakery Michael Kogan. He won the title in 2021 at Bake Off: The Professional in the UK. She explained that she was “inspiring” with the buttery aroma of fresh pastry.
The humble register area displays charming treats such as croissants, pain chocolate and cinnamon bread, while the open plan kitchen offers a glimpse of the magic of cooking taking place behind the scenes.
The bakery boasts a dazzling assortment of golden, flaky pastries that are too good to resist, and despite the lack of seating, the atmosphere remains relaxed and welcoming.
Upon arrival, Bethany was greeted by the staff with a warm “good morning”. The staff suggested that we enjoy our coffee while deciding on our orders. She chose the vanilla latte, describing it as “smooth and creamy,” making it the perfect companion for the pastry.
She and her friends brought their baked goods back to the car, as petit flour doesn't provide seats and brought them home to their home and plate them to fully enjoy their snacks.
Describing the food, she states: “I felt pain, but my friend chose cinnamon bread, both of which were exceptional.
“The outside was crispy, but not too flakes and left covered in breadcrumbs, making it easy to eat without any confusion.
“My friend also added that her cinnamon bread is perfectly spiced with just the right amount of sweetness. Before I left, I had to see an afternoon tea offering that looked seriously luxurious.
“I found their macarons, and I've heard rave reviews about them. I didn't try them this time, but next time it's firmly on my list.
“Petit Four is one of the quiet, great places. There are no frills or gimmicks, but it has exceptional quality. It's worth an early start.”
