Known for its natural beauty and iconic colorful homes, the Northumberland village has been chosen as one of the “most stylish places” in the UK.

Even if you've never visited Arunmas, you may have seen it on TV as the fictional village mardle in the ITV crime drama Vera.

However, Arunmas is a star in itself, thanks to its reputation as one of the area's hidden gems.

Along the Aln River there are rows of famous pastel-colored houses in the village, where the river meets the North Sea, with a variety of birds and wildlife species and quiet beaches.

It's not surprising to hear that Arunmas is in an area of outstanding natural beauty. The village is listed on the list of 60 “most stylish” places to live in the UK with furniture boxes in its online store.

It was also featured in the episode of Robson Green's Weekend Escape, and was named in 2021 on the Sunday Times list for the best places to live in the UK.

Visitors are encouraged to visit the ferryman's hut in the village harbor, the county's smallest museum. If art is more of yours, you can head to the old school gallery and relax with coffee.

Arunmas High Street features coffee shops, pubs, restaurants and gift shops. Nearby Arunmouth Golf Club is located in Foxton Bay. Founded in 1869, this is the fourth oldest golf club in England and offers views of the island of Mosque.

The dog-friendly beach is widely popular with visitors and is divided into three sections of Arunmas Bay. For those who love adventure, you can either walk the St. Oswald Road and the Northumberland coastal road, or cycle through the coast and castle cycle routes.

Arunmas has its own station, offering scenic views of colorful houses when pulling into the village. You can either head to Berwick Upon Tweed from the station or take a train south to Newcastle for a day trip.

Nearby Alnwick is known for its castle that appeared in Harry Potter films. You can also head to Alnwick Garden and enter the grounds of 4,000 different plants, their poisonous gardens and seasonal cherry orchard.

Visitors can walk a little along the town's cobblestone streets and see the archway of Bondgate Tower, the only remaining chunk of the town's walls.

The Alnwick Farmers Market takes place in the town square on the last Friday of each month and is perfect for potterying and sampling local products.
