Dreaming of a beach holiday on a stunning island in the middle of the Mediterranean? The town of Sicuriana offers a holiday of just £0.83 for those hoping to stay in Sicily for three nights to increase tourism during the off-peak season. Located on the southern coast of the largest island in the Mediterranean, this beautiful beach town features a charming town with 14th century castles and incredible beaches.
Just eight miles from the province's capital, Agrigento, Sichuliana is a rare gem that is far less crowded than the rest of Sicily, with its stunning cobblestone streets and natural white sandy beaches of the Toresalsa Nature Reserve. The town is a short drive from the Valley of the Temples of Agrigento, located on a UNESCO World Heritage Site, home to Sicily's most impressive ancient Greek temples, including the Temple of Concordia, one of the world's most preserved ancient monuments.
In contrast to many other places in Europe, such as the Balearic Islands, for example, Sicily towns are keen to attract more visitors, especially as their population has dropped from 5,000 to 4,000 over the past 20 years, as they have protested mass tourism and introduced measures to curb overtourism.
To apply, you will need to create a video explaining why you are 18 years old and want to visit.
If you're lucky, you can pay just £0.83 for a 3-day stay, including accommodation, meals, guided tours, and a welcome farewell aperitif.
The only thing you have to do is make a video to share with the City Hall during your stay.
“We want people to discover the beauty of our unique town,” said Giuseppe Zambito, Mayor of Sikuriana.
“It is outside the usual popular tourist routes. We hope that the proximity of Sicliana to the archaeological site of Agrienz in the valley of temples, which was appointed as the capital of Italian culture this year, will seduce more tourists here as well.”
Applications will be open until Saturday, March 15th, with winners announced by March 20th.
The first trip will take place between April 4-6, 2025, with City Hall planning to redo the competition in October and next spring.
A total of 10 couples or families will be chosen for this incredible 3-day trip to Sicily.
