Porter has strengthened its strategic relationship with Alaska Airlines and AIR Transat, and currently offers members of the loyalty program the ability to redeem VIPORTE points for flights with those airlines.
Toronto-based Porter said on March 19 that the update marks the next phase of its joint venture with Canadian airline Air Transat and a “deepening of commercial partnership” with Alaska.
“The enhancement to this program allows Viporter members to exchange seamless trips across the wide network of flights sold by Porter,” says Career.
One World Career Alaska established an intervention agreement with Porter in December 2023. The agreement opened up new opportunities for Alaskan customers to travel to Canada, linking the regional network of Porters in eastern Canada with a hub on Alaska's west coast.
In fact, Alaska and Porter's relationship initially focused on Porter's flights between Toronto and Los Angeles and San Francisco. These flights became available for booking through the Alaska website, allowing passengers to book a combination of Alaska Porter itineraries through the Porter portal.
The agreement aims to compete more meaningfully with Air Canada and WestJet shortly after Porter and Montreal-based leisure carrier Air Transat through a joint venture launched in November 2023.
Air Transat CEO Annick Gierard recently told investors that the joint venture with Porter is building a “strong organic momentum,” with the airline expecting the full year to reflect “a significant increase in additional passenger connections compared to 2024.”
Currently, Air Transat offers nearly 1,300 itineraries available to Porter customers, while Alaska offers over 1,000 possible connections.
“By expanding redemption options, we are making it easier for passengers to maximize the value of Viporter Points across a growing network of destinations,” says Edmond Eldes, Porter's chief commercial officer.
Porter plans to launch a branded MasterCard credit card this spring to further increase its loyalty programme.
