Popular holiday spot beaches are “sky” as prices kill “sightseeing” | Travel News | Travel

The beach is said to be “empty” at a popular holiday hotspot after inflation was “killed by tourists.” However, it has been widely reported that destinations have become quieter over the past year as a result of rising costs. Today, popular beaches are said to be “abandoned.” A video shared by tourists shows what life is like in Marmaris, Turkey this month. There was almost no one on the beach at 11am. She said the hotspot was “dead.” People seem to be postponing visits as tourism costs have risen.

Susanna, known in Tiktok as Suzannatravelsolo, said the beach she visited was “abandoned” and there was no one there. It left her completely gobsmack.

In the clip, she said: “This is 11am. There's one man there. There's no one.”

She then visited another area and added, “This is the famous Bur Street – Marmaris nightclub area. I can't imagine it was like last night.”

Susanna also headed to the Marina area. There were very few people there. She couldn't believe how quiet it was.

The video has attracted a lot of attention, and hundreds of people have commented. Some were quickly recognized as they thought the prices of the visit had skyrocketed.

“People can't afford it now because of how expensive it is now.” Another wrote:

The third answered: “The prices at Marmaris have become so crazy. I know there is a crisis cost everywhere, but I've seen some of the prices on the menu and drinks on the forums. Marmaris has been one of my go-to places every year, but it's not like that anymore.”

Meanwhile, the fourth commented: “My first year will not go to Turkey. That's not budget-friendly anymore. I'm heading to Greece instead.”

Someone thought it was quiet because of the weather. Others also argued that being very busy during the season is still very easy.

Someone else said: “It's just the beginning of the season. Come in June, July, August, and it's going to be chokka.” Another wrote: “I was in Marmaris a few weeks ago and the beach was packed, and that's probably because of the bad weather they had.”

    Why are turkeys so expensive?

There are several reasons why the price is said to have been shot in Türkiye. Statista offers one explanation.

The website says: “The domestic producer price index has been rising continuously, and the prices of all consumer goods and services have risen directly. Therefore, the consumer price index (CPI) for all product groups has increased significantly since 2022.

“In the same year, the food and non-alcoholic beverage categories had one of the highest inflation rates in CPI, which was particularly affected as these products account for the highest share of household spending in 2023.

“Food prices have risen significantly worldwide since 2020, and Turkey is no exception. Though inflation has started to decline recently, Turkey's food prices continue to rise steadily, continuing to rise 48.6% in November 2024 compared to the same month last year.

“It's not surprising that food inflation has not been boiled down as the country's constant uptick has followed the country's constant uptick over the past few years, and the producer price index (PPI) has continued to rise.”

However, Turkey is said to be taking measures to help boost tourism, such as dealing with rising prices, making it more diverse in tourist delivery and investing in infrastructure. The government is said to be working to reduce inflation, and some people are also promoting niche tourism sectors such as spas and healthcare.
