The British love cruises, and it is expected that more than 2 million British and Irish passengers will embark on their voyage this year. They are just a small portion of the 32 million cruise passengers around the world in 2023, looking for a peaceful aisle of boats filled with entertainment, sunbeds and pools.
However, 2023 was a record year for British cruise enthusiasts, with the Mediterranean appearing as the top destination among Britons. That year, about 35% of tourists travelled there, 29% heading to Northern Europe and 12% heading to the Caribbean.
However, British favourite activities are frowned heavily when they board the ship, which may be a surprise to anyone preparing to sail this summer. Of course, bad behavior can reflect around the entire ship, and although it is a wide area, these are trapped spaces, so it is best to line up at sea.
As Gillian Carmoodie writes for World of Cruising, karaoke can become a disaster recipe on board as it can confuse others around your room and cause friction in the hallways.
She said: “The walls of a cruise ship are not as soundproof as you think. While giving a certain level of privacy, greater activity will be converted into surrounding cabins and corridors.
“Next people can hear you blow up loud music, talk to unpleasant, advanced frequencies, make loud noises on the balcony, practice what you see with basic instincts, raise your TV to a deafening level, or host improvised karaoke sessions.
“It's not the move we recommend.”
She also shares many cruise tips for travelers to avoid becoming a boat talk, such as advice on not to betting pool loungers early in the morning.
According to Carmoodie, the “reserve” chairs in the cracks of dawn are “not cool” and make something “nasty for everyone.”
On the other hand, at the buffet, plates are stacked high and there is no need to wait long for other travelers.
For those who serve you and keep you safe and comfortable around the ship, we recommend being kind and polite.
As Carmoodie writes, it is important to remember that the crew is “not your personal assistant.”
“You're not grateful to snap your fingers or act in challenging fashion. The crew doesn't respond to your attacks in a nasty way, while other passengers are happy to put you in your place.”
She advises people who respect the crew to “do more and more” from the holidays.
