South Africa's Pilanesberg Game Reserve has significantly upgraded its conservation and poaching capabilities through the installation of a modern digital radio communications system. The new infrastructure, developed by Hytera and implemented by local partner Sentiv, will replace outdated analog radio, providing almost complete coverage in the 56,000 hectares of reserve.
The system includes GPS-enabled radio, emergency response capabilities and real-time tracking to improve ranger safety and coordination across remote locations. Tools like “Man Down” alerts, emergency buttons, and encrypted communications allow rangers to respond to incidents faster and more effectively. Pilanesberg will join other prominent reserves, including Kruger and Sabizabi, in adopting sophisticated digital solutions as part of a broader effort to protect biodiversity and secure South Africa's natural heritage.
