After a successful 2024 after a decade of rest, Msunduzi Council officially approved the Peter Maritzburg (PMB) Air Show as an annual event for the next three years. The airshow, scheduled for July 11-12, 2025 at Olivi Airport, attracted around 5,000 spectators last year, and is expected to attract even bigger crowds this year.
Promoted by the Fuze Aviation Academy, a major tenant at Pietermaritzburg Airport, the airshow is being promoted as both an entertainment highlight and a platform that promotes awareness of aviation career paths. Career Day precedes the airshow and gives local students insight into occupations such as piloting, air traffic control and aviation engineering. The city has allocated R1.45 million for the event and R200,000 for Career Day, with support from the Public Safety and Transportation sector. The event is Civil Aviation Authority certified and features a wide range of programs including aviation displays, skydiving, hot air balloon flights and static exhibitions. Local economic development agencies, including the Umgungundlovu Economic Development Agency, have approved the show as a catalyst for tourism and economic activity in the region.
