Philippine Airlines tapped former Sri Lanka CEO Richard Nutter to appointed the first foreign leader to lead the national airline.
Nuttall will be steering its Manila-based carrier from May 29th, and airlines have disclosed it. He will replace the resignation Stanley NG, who will move to the airline's pro-Pal Holdings as vice president and director.
Nuttall's appointment comes amid efforts aimed at “strengthening the leadership team and bold pushing in the international market,” Career says.
“Philippine Airlines has always been committed to working with the best people at all levels. Richard Nutter is a worthy addition to an already formidable team. I am confident he will create and develop sustainable growth for PAL.”
Under Nuttall's tenure, Srilankan has returned to profitability after suffering a double whammy of a pandemic and political upheaval. Flightglobal contacted Srilankan for details on Nuttall's departure.
In PAL, Nuttall is supported by Carlos Luis Fernandez. Carlos Luis Fernandez will be promoted to the role of operating chief and executive vice president starting May 29th.
Executive modifications come as PAL predicts strong travel demand throughout the summer season and for airlines to expand operations in Cebu Hub. PAL is planning to deliver its first Airbus A350-1000 this year and will take on the A321CEOS cabin retrofit.
PAL Holdings acknowledged that net profit for the year had increased to PS8.1 billion ($144 million) until December 31, 2024. This brought a small DIP in revenue back to 179.1 billion PS, with passenger revenue falling 2.9% year-on-year, but increased freight and supplementary revenue.
