An exciting lead into the 2025 Kyknet Kwêla Dorp Van Die Jaar (Town of the Year) competition, and the town based in Kwazulu-Natal could win. On Sunday, July 6th, the town of Pennington, a beautiful coastal town of KZN South Coast, was announced as the KZN finalist in the contest. And it's up to the voter public to push Pennington into its first position.
The contest celebrates the best towns in nine regions of South Africa and Namibia, a town with less than half a million residents. Three KZN towns have been nominated – Scottberg, Paul Petersburg and Pennington. The Tidy Towns Pennington NPO was responsible for entering town, and SMS ensured that Pennington would be in the finals.
Dorp Van Die Jaar not only wins this illustrious title, but also earns a whopping R1 million from Lottoland. Additionally, the winning town has earned an additional R1 million promotion across DSTV and has won a Makietie Town Party worth R250 000 to celebrate.
“To spearhead this exciting project on behalf of Pennington is not only exciting, but also an honor,” commented Viv Sandwith, chairman of the Tidy Towns NPO. “It was easy to celebrate Pennington. We've done a lot. It's no wonder holiday makers flock to our little dopes to feel love. Visitors always leave with emotional attachment to this small town.”
