As temperatures rise in the UK, Britons have begun to change their minds this summer on unexpected holidays in Spain. But following a record 94 million visitors last year, Spanish authorities have begun to tighten and implement new rules to deal with the confusion that followed.
Therefore, Brits who plan to visit Southern European countries in the coming months have been urged to read the new rules to ensure that they are not slapped with a hefty fine that will certainly undermine their enjoyment. In particular, Spanish authorities are beginning to implement stricter rules regarding the parties that are in question due to safety concerns. In fact, guests could be fined tens of thousands of euros if they attend.
This summer, the British, who decided to attend a party or two in Spain, were urged to confirm that it was a licensed event.
Even in private villas and flats, unlicensed parties can be fined nearly 30,000 euros on guests and organizers, which amounts to around £25,650.
These rules have been implemented to ensure participants' safety in terms of proper exit, staffing and crowd control.
This is not the only change to watch out for in Spain this summer. One of the biggest changes in 2025 is surrounding accommodation. Travelers must now have a legal place to stay in Spain or prove they are at risk of a fine of 9,000 euros (£7,700). If you have booked with a hotel or Airbnb, you will need a quick show of confirmation email or booking documents.
However, if you are planning on staying with friends and family, a new step is involved. Hosts must register their visit with the local police and obtain official evidence of their stay. Only Spanish citizens, Spanish EU residents or legal residents can do this, so check the documents before you fly.
Finally, the dress code is also more strictly enforced, so pack it properly. For example, Malaga punishes vacations up to 750 euros (641 pounds) for undressing in public places, but Platajadaarro has taken it even further, fined up to 1,500 euros for being open in public places in underwear and Lacey costumes.
