Following the pattern of targeting secondary airports near the Metro Centre, low-cost carrier Abelo has begun operating a new base at Charlotte Concord Paget Regional Airport.
“Charlotte Concord Airport is just a short drive from Charlotte and its suburbs,” Abelo said on March 6, offering an alternative to the area's largest hub, Charlotte Douglas International Airport.
A pair of Boeing 737s will be located at Abelo's new base in Concord. The company says it will create approximately 50 positions for pilots, flight attendants, maintenance workers and customer service staff.
Houston Head Crawl Abelo plans to fly from Charlotte to seven cities, with new services to Nashville, Florida and Daytona Beach scheduled for early next month.
Concord Base is in addition to Abelo's existing North Carolina base at Raleigh-Durham International Airport, and Disc Counter intends to complete the Triad at another operating base at Wilmington International Airport, which will open on April 3rd.
Since launching in April 2021 amid the Covid-19 pandemic, Avelo's network has grown to include 53 cities in the US and Puerto Rico, as well as three international destinations in the Dominican Republic, Jamaica and Mexico. Currently, it is leasing a fleet for 20737.
CEO Andrew Levy recently told the airline business that Abelo is on the road to sustainable profitability and is looking at early public offers soon this year.
“I think we'll be published by the end of (2025). Otherwise… that's going to be a year that will last,” he said.
