With Easter School breaks and bank holidays approaching, many British people flock to popular holiday destinations in Europe. But even if the UK sunshine you've experienced in the last few weeks isn't enough, if overcrowded beaches aren't your tea, a last minute vacation might still be the solution for you.
In fact, Praia da Falesia, located in the Algarve, Portugal, is one of Europe's hidden gems and has been identified as one of Europe's least crowded beach destinations. Translated into the Portuguese “Cliff Beach,” Praia da Falesia is a stunning beach known for its golden sand, clear water and distinctive red cliffs, stretching over 6 kilometres between Vilamoura and Albafeira. According to Wizz Air, Praia da Falésia is ranked seventh at least on a busy Easter holiday, for Sunseekers looking for an early beach break.
Faro Airport (FAO) is the perfect airport to fly to Praia da Falesia from the UK in Portugal's Algarve region.
The average cost of a direct flight from London to Faro is £117, just under three hours. Several airlines offer direct flights including EasyJet, Jet2 and Ryanair.
Praia da Falesia is located 38.3 km from Faro Airport and is approximately 32 minutes' drive away. Taxi fares range from £40 to £50.
The average cost of hotels in Praia da Falésia varies, but you can find options ranging from £32 per night to luxury resorts like Grande Real Santa Eulalia Resort & Hotel Spa.
Praia da Falesia is located in the Algarve's most tourist section, but the beach has an incredibly pristine, natural setting, Algarve tourists have revealed.
The website further points out that the beach is hampered from the invasion of “Ugh Tourist Development of the Mega Hotel Complex” as it is combined with a natural park that runs along the fragile clay cliffs and cliff tops.
Mindful Gingernut's blog wrote about his experience at Praia da Falesia in 2021:
“The bright orange cliffs and visible layers of rocks made the geographer happy within me a bit.”
They continued. “As far as I was concerned, I found paradise. I knew I was walking down the beach with a big smile on my face, with a respectful look on the view.
“Around every corner I walked, the cliff faces changed and there was something different about me with a smirk.
“As I continued walking along the beach, I realized how light and easy I felt, and I felt more relaxed and content than I had been doing for a long time.
“As I walked along the beach I realized I had a lot of thoughts, in addition to (glaring at me) with a wide open mouth with the stunning views around me.”
