Due to technical difficulties, Mozambique temporarily suspended its recently implemented electronic travel certification (ETA) requirements.
Since early May, Mozambique had requested travelers in 29 visa-waived countries to notify the authorities at least 48 hours in advance by submitting an ETA application.
This procedure has been an option since 2023, but has recently been mandated to help the government better predict travel flows and strengthen border security. However, the new scale only lasted a few days…
In a press release released on May 16, 2025, Mozambican authorities announced an immediate but temporary suspension of ETA requirements.
Technical Issues Quick shutdown of ETA system
reason? Technical issues with the registration system.
According to the National Immigration Agency (Senami), the platform currently does not allow proper data submission, disrupting the process and causing inconvenience to travelers. In light of this, the government has decided to suspend ETA requirements.
“This decision comes as a result of technical constraints found in the registration system, which prevents the normal access and submission of data by citizens subject to the measures,” the official statement reads.
The authorities stated, “This obligation arises from the aforementioned legal provisions regulating the regime to encourage foreigners to enter Mozambique, but Senami believes it is necessary to protect users' rights during periods of technical improvements to the system.”
Travelers can temporarily enter Mozambique without an ETA
Once the technical issues are resolved, the government plans to restore ETA requirements and notify travelers when the platform is fully operational again.
“While work is underway to fully restore the platform's functionality, the requirements for advance communication will be temporarily suspended. After this period, new official communication will be made regarding the reestablishment of measures as soon as the technical conditions are met,” Senami said.
Until then, travelers from the next 29 countries can enter Mozambique without submitting an electronic travel approval (ETA).
