The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has issued an update to travelers following the 6.1 magnitude earthquake that hit Greece this morning. The earthquake led to a tsunami warning from authorities.
The European China Earthquake Centre (EMSC) repeatedly warned tsunami warnings to urge the Greek people in Turkey.
A week after an earthquake of a similar size hit the island, the building was damaged and some people were forced to sleep outside due to fear of safety.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has since taken a step to warn tourists visiting the island that Greece can “experience extreme natural phenomena.”
Their alert states that “Greece can experience extreme natural phenomena such as earthquakes, wildfires, extreme heat, flash floods.”
“The regions around the Cycladic Islands of Santorini (Thira), Anafi, Ios and Amorgos experienced an increase in seismic activity in early 2025.
They added: “Greece has the risk of earthquakes and earth trembling.
“You should get used to safety procedures in the event of an earthquake, follow the advice given by the local government and call Greek emergency services at 112 if you are in danger right away.”
“This increase has subsided ever since, and the tourism season is expected to continue as usual.”
Tourists took them to social media to share the horrors they experienced when they woke up by natural disasters.

She said: “I just had an earthquake. I'm absolutely petrified,” she said at the beginning of the video.
