The UK's Foreign, Federal and Development Authority (FCDO) revised its advice regarding British people traveling to Türkiye. As the government's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, one of the FCDO's responsibilities is to regularly update travel guidance for around 226 overseas countries and territories.
A new FCDO alert issued on Friday, June 20th said: “If you are a British citizen who wants to cross the land border from Iran to Turkey, you must request facilitation from the British Embassy in Ankara by contacting the FCDO before moving to the border, and indicate whether you want to contact Iran and be in relative terms.
“You will need to provide personal details (name, date of birth, details of travel documents used to enter Turkey), which is necessary by the Turkish authorities.
“The usual entry requirements apply to UK citizens, including the ability to enter without a visa for up to 90 days in 180 days.
“If you intend to leave Iran's land, you do so at your own risk. In Iran, having a British passport or being aware of your connection with the UK is reason enough for Iranian authorities to detain you.”
Elsewhere, government guidance explains, “If you are affected by the overseas crisis (you should), you should call FCDO (+44)(0)207 008 5000.”
