Mauritius was named the world's best honeymoon destination at the 2025 TripAdvisor Travelers Choice Awards 2025. They beat Bali and Maldives to top spots. That's not surprising to Sue Garrett, the supply of pricing & marketing and general managers for South Africa's flight centres.
“Mauritius ranked fourth on the list of top 10 international destinations in 2024,” Garrett said. “And while it is a solid favourite for the family, there are plenty of Maurishan resorts that are specialized for couples.
Is Mauritius on your list of potential honeymoon destinations? There are 5 reasons to lock it up (with the love of your life):
1. Swim-up room
1. Swim-up room
Victoria Beach Comer Resort & Spa's Victoria Four 2 is an adult-only wing located in a remote area of the resort. It boasts its own pool bar and restaurant only from the beach, but the “swim-up” room on the first floor provides direct access to the pool from the veranda. It's the island's bliss.
Please know: Victoria Beachcomber has 17 swim-up rooms (you can walk directly from the room to the water) along the large swimming pool.
2. Moonlight dinner
Mauritius really, really do well with beach breakfasts, lazy lunches and moonlight dinners. And there's nothing better than Solana Beach Mauritius, an adult-only haven of peace on the lush east coast of Mauritius.
“The four-star Solana Beach is one of our bestsellers,” Garrett says. “There are beautiful “corners” throughout the resort's grounds, including a jacuzzi with a waterfall and a pavilion by the beach. And they set up a romantic dinner on the beach. This is an affordable option for couples.
Good to know: Respect for marine life, all water-based activities in Solana Beach Mauritius are not motorized.
3. The perfect picnic…o ux cerfs
Just off the east coast of Mauritius is the world-famous aux cerf, which is famous for its stunning white sandy beaches and crystal clear waters. It's a wonderful day. Couples can ride private boats on the beach, snorkeling and romantic picnics. Most Maurishan Resorts will be happy to organize a move to Il Austraf, including Radisson Blu Post Lafayette Resort & Spa, just 18 km from the privately owned island.
“The legendary golf course at Hele Aux Cerfs is a must for golfers,” Garrett says. “The Bernhardlanger Design course is surrounded by a spectacular Marine lagoon, so there are no other courses. But it's worth the day even if you're not a golfer. There are beautiful beaches, water sports, beach bars and picnics.
Good to know: There are many different ways to enjoy aux cerf. Garrett recommends visiting the island and chatting with accommodation providers about catamaran cruises, speedboat excursions, golf and water sports bookings.
4. Spari Treat
Couples spa days are almost mandatory on honeymoons. Especially if your wedding planning is more stressful than you would expect! Luckily, most resorts offer the next level of spa experience. For example, Radisson Blu Azure Resort and Spa offers complimentary hammam and sauna sessions along with a variety of massages, treatments, holistic therapy and Ayurvedic packages. Sugar Beach Mauritius is another good example, and the couple's treatment room is ready!
Know: not dashing for hot stone massages or pedicures, arrive early and enjoy the spa heated pool, hammam and sauna. Most spas include access to all facilities within treatment prices, simply by double checking at booking.
5. A scenic wonder
They say they are with a couple to play together. Mauritius offers plenty of adventure and natural wonders for those who want to go out and explore. Make sure at least some of these are on your list, as you will miss it:
Chamarel Village (7-Colored Earth Geopark) and Chamarel Waterfall (the tallest single-drop waterfall in Mauritius). Pamplemousses Botanical Garden – Its giant watermelon (Victoria Amazonica) is amazing! Le Morne Brabant – A hike to the summit of Le Morne Brabant, at the very southwest tip of Mauritius, teaches both the island's history and biodiversity and views for days! Underwater Waterfalls – By hiking Lemone Brabant you can find the very rough outlines of Mauritius' “legendary “underwater waterfalls”, but the best way to see this natural phenomenon is from above. Chartering seaplanes for bird's-eye views – and the thrill of taking off and landing of the water has been added! Black River Gorge National Park offers guided hikes for those looking to experience Mauritius' indigenous forests and wildlife, including the island's flying foxes, wild boars, macaque monkeys and deer.
Good to know:
It's fascinating to treat Mauritius as the ultimate “fly and flop” destination, but Garrett says there's more to the island. “We chat with our travel advisor before leaving a few days to travel or explore and dedicate ourselves. From foodie tours to birdwatching hikes with local biologists, we can do anything.
