Martin Lewis Published passport We're warning people planning on traveling abroad this summer. The founder of Money Saving Expert told viewers of the Martin Lewis Money Show on ITV that the country needs to be “more hardworking” with its own checks, making it more strict about who the country has put in.

He shared three “important” alerts, including two passport checks that will take place on the day you enter the country. Lewis said: “What's very important is this about the day you enter the country.”

Experts said they need to check if there is less than six months left in their passport, or if it is less than three months for those traveling to the European Union.

“If that's the case, that's a big problem. But even if you have seven months left in your passport, if your passport is over 10 years old, many countries won't let you in.”

Lewis explained that this may be true for people who had time on the old passport that was transferred when they renewed their passport.

He warns people need to do both of these checks, whether the answer to which is “yes”, and then the “safeest” thing is to renew their passport before travel.

In the UK, it usually takes about three weeks to get a passport, but it may take more time if your passport office needs more information about you.

In such cases, you will need to notify me within three weeks. Applicants from outside the UK should expect a different period.

It's cheaper to apply online, but you can apply via the post office. Doing so will cost you another £16.

Lewis explained that even if his passport is seven, eight or even nine months left, and the rules are six months, he will still be “playing safely” and renewing anyway.

He added: “It's very similar if you're traveling to America or going through America. You need to sort ESTAs right now.”

Travel Authorization (ESTA) electronic systems are systems used by the United States to screen travelers who wish to enter the country under the Visa Waiver Program (VWP).

Participating countries can travel to the US for business, tourism or transportation for up to 90 days without a visa. British citizens are eligible to travel under the VWP.

Lewis said: “The state has increased border security. If there is no one, it is not denied without one. You need to be careful.”
