Martin Lewis warned the British planning a summer vacation, urging them to stick to his golden rules or face the possibility of losing thousands. As summer approaches, many people are beginning to book their holidays.
Statistics show that only 15% of Brits who leave their bookings until less than a month before departure tend to book in advance. In an episode of Martin Lewis Money Show, Financial Guru highlighted the key steps to take right after booking a vacation.
Mr. Lewis highlighted the importance of travel insurance in his Mantra: Asab – as soon as you book. He said: “Travel insurance doesn't just cover you while you're away, it's also very important to cover you in case something happens before you go.
“There are rules. You need to get travel insurance. As soon as you book, many people have already booked it now. If you don't have travel insurance and have already booked holidays, do it now.
“The reason I do this is because at this time they ask questions like, “I've been diagnosed with cancer, I can't go on the holidays and they say we can't get the money back – they say we can.
“I'm helpless, because the answer is that you have your travel insurance. They say, 'I don't have travel insurance yet.' Don't get your travel insurance the day before you go – get your travel insurance ASAB. ”
Lewis shed light on viewers – known as C – contacted the program after it meant medical issues were unable to fly, Devon Live reports. But even without insurance, they are at risk of losing full pay leave.
C explained: “I booked a Christmas holiday last year and was medically advised not to fly. The holidays were already paid and I hadn't taken out my travel insurance. They say I lost all my money for the holidays! Is there anything I can do?”
Lewis replied: “Don't be the one who asks me that question this summer. If you're planning on getting travel insurance, give it a try.”
Lewis said: “The answer is no. If you think about it for a moment, if you buy a tennis racket and break your arm, you can't say, “Your arm is broken so you need a refund.” The flight is still functional. The hotel still works.
