Governor Luxor gave a spectacular celebration at the historic Luxor Temple, marking receipts of the Golden Award from Afro-Asianion (Afas) as the first global capital of culture, history and heritage.
According to a statement issued by Governor Luxor, the celebration was attended by senior officials from tourism, culture and media from Egypt and around the world.
The event was blessed with the presence of Khaled Huda, presidential adviser for local development and honorary chairman of Afas. Governor Luxor Abdel Muttarib Amara. Dr. Hotham Darwish, president of Afas; Hosam Budlerdin, Union Chief. Mohamed Osman, a board member of Afas and head of Luxor's Cultural Tourism Marketing Committee.
Also, members of the council representing Governor Luxor, city mayor, lieutenant governor, numerous tourism experts, UNESCO representatives and guests of the 15th International Forum, represented the guests of the 15th International Forum on tourism and heritage sustainability, development and advanced research.
The prestigious event, hosted by Luxor, was organized by the Foundation for Heritage, Development and Innovation by the Future Egypt Foundation, in cooperation with ministries of Tourism, Ancient and Culture, and the European Travel Commission (ETC).
Luxor is famous as the “large outdoor museum in the world.” It features an ancient temple complex in Karnak and Luxor within the modern city. Beyond the Nile are monuments, temples and tombs of the Tenban Necropolis on the banks of the Jordan River, including the Valley of Kings and Valley of Queens.
Luxor has earned the prestigious title from Afas, “The First Global Capital of Culture, History and Heritage” and is unanimously competing against three other global cities.
This recognition underscores the global importance of Luxor as a symbol of human culture and civilization, and acknowledges its efforts in heritage preservation, cultural development and sustainable tourism.
Presented by the Supreme International Committee of AFASU, the award serves as an international platform for promoting cities with exceptional historical and cultural heritage.
The Afro-Asian Union (AFASU) is an organization dedicated to advances in tourism, culture, technology and sustainable development. Its roots date back to the Afro-Asian Solidarity Organization (AAPSO), founded by African and Asian Heads of State through an international treaty at the Bandung Conference in 1955.
