The Trump administration is considering widespread travel restrictions for citizens from multiple countries as part of a new ban, according to sources familiar with the issue.
A US official speaking anonymously emphasized that the list could be changed and that it would receive final approval, including Secretary Marco Rubio.
The memo provides an overview of the list of 43 countries categorized into three groups, of which 22 are from Africa. The following are considered by African countries due to potential travel restrictions under Trump's new proposed travel ban:
a) Complete visa suspension
The “red category” includes countries that ban citizens from entering the United States entirely. A full visa suspension means that individuals from these countries are not eligible for a US visa and effectively prohibit travel, work, or study domestically.
b) Partial visa suspension (tourists, students, and other affected visas)
“Orange Category” refers to countries that are subject to partial visa suspensions. This means that only certain types of visas are restricted, such as tourists and student visas, but other visas such as diplomatic and workplace visas are still issued. Additionally, applicants from these countries must attend in-person interviews to obtain a visa.
c) Countries that recommend partial suspension if shortages are not addressed:
Another “yellow list” includes 22 countries for 60 days to address 60-day concerns before facing stricter visa restrictions. These countries are flagged as flaws in security measures, identity verification, or cooperation with US immigration policies. If not improved, it could be reclassified into a more restrictive category.
12) Democratic Republic of the Congo
21) Samme and Principe
