Lido listed in this Grade II is a paradise for both dogs and humans | UK | Travel

There is no place like Lido to be exposed to the glorious weather. Whether you suck up rays in a novel clenched in your hand or take a refreshing dip in the vibrant turquoise waters, it is the ultimate summer hangout.

For those who want to absorb the seaside atmosphere without actually ravaging the ocean, an attractive escape, just an hour away from London, can be the idyllic place you're hoping for. This particular oasis is not just a paradise for beach lovers. Dog owners are warmly welcome to one month-old dog owners who are dedicated to enjoying swimming with their dog companions.

Salt Dean Lido in East Sussex is a must-see for anyone looking for a break from urban topics this summer. Opened in 1938, it stands proudly as the UK's only Grade II listed coastal lido, designed by the famous architect RWH Jones, the mastermind behind the Grand Ocean Hotel in Brighton.

But what is lido? Linking that name from the Italian term “beach” is that of lido, typically refers to an outdoor pool near the seaside. They usually have standard facilities such as changing areas and showers.

With many historic pools undergoing resilience facelifts to regain the splendor of the past, nothing captures the essence of British summer time, like the sight of brightly painted, changing sheds lined up around vintage Lidos who are currently enjoying the Renaissance.

Saltdean Lido, five miles east of Brighton, was once assigned for demolition, so there were plans to replace the site with over 100 flats.

However, it was preserved thanks to local residents and the Save Saltdean Lido campaign. The SaveSaltdeanLido campaign led to the spectacular reopening of the pool in 2017, as Brighton & Hove City Council abolished the plans and handed over the lease.

The pool has heated water, kids paddling and play areas, backed by vigilant lifeguards, ensuring a safe aquatic adventure at your own pace.

Beyond the fun of splashes, Saltdean Lido offers first-class facilities, including changing rooms, toilets and refreshment options.

For dog lovers, this place is nothing more than a paradise with special dog swimming sessions and events exclusively for golden retrievers known as “Dog Tenba.” This year's event will start on September 13th.

In addition to the buzz, Tiktok users have shared a delightful view of Lido's charm through the eyes of dogs, saying, “There's nothing more to do than swim at 150 Goldens TBF!”

In response to the video, the enthusiastic comment erupted, “wooooa, it looks so fun,” and another person rang out, “I always need this.”

TripAdvisor reviews were largely positive for one visitor's sharing.

“The area around the pool is wonderful and beautiful. The pool is very deep on one side designed for adults, but unlike most modern pools, it means you can all jump properly. There's also a lovely kids pool.”

Another reviewer praised: “Best Sunday lunch…. Great staff, good quality food was served nicely and hot on hot plates, which is always a good indication. Then, on a sunny Sunday afternoon, we have a drink on our first class terrace.”

The easiest way to get to Salt Dean is by public transport. The train from London to Brighton takes about an hour, then the bus can be connected to Salt Dean.

Saltdean Lido is fully scheduled when various groups are available on Mondays and Wednesdays from 7am to 8pm and the day from 7am to 7pm. Click here to find the full breakdown of prices.
