Lao Airlines has become the latest international operator of Comac's C909 Regional Jet after providing its first example on March 31st.
The aircraft (RDPL-34229) is currently leasing from COMAC and will begin service on domestic routes on April 12th, the domestic airline said.
The aircraft (formerly known as the ARJ21) consists of a single class layout with 90 economy class seats.
Lao Airlines' first C909 delivery comes more than a week after LAO Civil Aviation Regulators give the aircraft a green light to operate commercial flights. Comac says it has set up a “special team” to oversee areas such as training, manuals and MRO for certification. According to the airline, the first flight will be operated alongside a Chinese flight crew and a Laon Airlines cabin crew.
This delivery is an important milestone for Comac's ambition to enhance international presence.
When it launched in April, Lao Airlines will become the second Asian operator of this type after Indonesia's Transnusa Airlines. Low-cost operator Vietjet is reportedly considering operating the C909 on a LEASES basis, withholding regulatory approval.
In fact, COMAC said in its latest comment that the C909 has “strong adaptability to the Southeast Asian operational environment,” with “good high temperatures” and “short takeoff capabilities.”
