The city of Umhlathuze has been selected to host the Tourism Investment Forum Africa (TIFA) 2025, which will be held from August 26-27 at the Thembela event venue in Richards Bay. The announcement came during an African conference at the Sandton Convention Centre in Johannesburg, and highlights the growing role of Umhlathuze as a hub for tourism and investment in KwaZulu-Natal. Mayor Xolani Ngwezi expressed optimism about the possibility of an event that will position the city as a competitive centre for export trade and investment, leveraging its strategic location as a gateway to Zululand and Maputaland.
TIFA 2025 will explore key tourism and infrastructure projects by bringing together investors, policymakers and industry stakeholders with the theme of “Investing in Tourism and Infrastructure: Advance Economic Change and Improve Community Happiness.” The forum introduces site visits to highlight investment opportunities, but the discussion focuses on unlocking capital for sustainable and inclusive growth. Sibusiso Gumbi, CEO of Kwazulu-Natal Tourism and Film Authority, emphasized that holding the event will strengthen the regional profile as a tourism and business destination, and long-term economic benefits for the state and beyond.
