Airasia X will suspend direct services between Kuala Lumpur and Nairobi from September 1, 2025, citing lower travel demand than expected. The route, which began in November 2024, was the airline's first entry into East Africa, aiming to strengthen tourism and trade ties between Asia and Africa. It operates four times a week with flight code D7 and remains the only direct air link between Malaysia and the continent.

The suspension forms part of the Airasia X's wider network optimization strategy. Passengers affected by the change will be offered by August 31st with options including full refunds for travel, travel credits, or free flight changes. The airline said it will continue to assess global demand and the viability of routes, focusing on affordable long-range connectivity.
