Korea Air Announces New Branding with First Logo Change for Over 40 Years | News

South Korea's Air has launched a new corporate branding, which includes a logo update for the first time since 1984, as it is working to integrate with rival-turned subsidy Asiana Airlines.

The airline revealed the new brand design at its launch event on March 11th. This saw the first aircraft repainted with new colouring.

The airline retains the trademark Sky Blue colour in the redesign, but has introduced “newly developed paint” to the aircraft. We simplified the language of the aircraft and chose “Korean” instead of the current “Korean atmosphere.”

“Taegeuk” logo – The airline's blue and red logos have been simplified to a solid dark blue for over 40 years.

The first aircraft to sport the new colouring was the Boeing 787-10 (HL8515) delivered to the airline in 2024. On March 12th, we will return to operation and operate the first flight between Seoul Incheon and Narita Tokyo.

Marketing chief Kennethchan, who did not disclose the schedule, said South Korea's air would introduce “more aircraft” in the year to compensate. When Asiana merges with Korean in 2027, the former fleet will also show off its new colouring.

Apart from the new branding, in-flight services have also been updated, including the update of the dining menu for the first time in 15 years in Korean.

The branding update comes about a week after airline chief Waltercho announced its “corporate value system,” known as “Ke Way,” as it celebrates its 56th anniversary.

South Korea announced its intention to acquire the sick Asiana in November 2020, and ultimately completed the acquisition in late 2024 after clearing a significant anti-trust hurdle. Asiana will operate as a subsidiary before it is fully absorbed on January 1, 2027.
