Over the past few years, booking holidays has become somewhat complicated considering the growing issues of meetings and the number of issues that pose to residents and visitors. The British-loved destination is increasingly struggling to deal with the swaths of tourists visiting during the peak holiday season.

Holiday rentals and hotels that drive home prices for locals, traffic jams and busy streets have introduced taxes to visit floating cities to stop the day to curb overtourism. Overtourism is felt, and it's not just daily life that the environment struggles with the number of visitors, but Tenerife has announced plans to introduce a new eco tax for tourists visiting Tayde National Park.

Booking a trip was simply a choice of destination, hotel, or budgeting if you wanted to get acquainted, but many of us are thinking of ways to avoid adding to the overtourism issues of some of the European hotspots.

When it comes to travel, thinking outside the box is hit by the tourist masses, one way to alleviate pressure on European islands that want to avoid and avoid more popular destinations has been named “the capital of overtourism.”

Known for its vibrant nightlife and clubs, this Greek island, located in the Ionian Sea, features stunning white sand beaches and turquoise waters that are popular destinations for those looking for a sunny escape.

Which new research? Zante has revealed that it is Europe's “overtourism capital” with an astounding 6 million accommodations recorded in 2023.

This study used data on European Commission (EC) tourism numbers. Tourism counts were measured by looking at the number of tourists per resident and the number of nights they stayed, which is the most common measurement of overtourism.

Which one? Despite only 40,000 people actually living there, Zante stayed overnight in 2023, equivalent to 150 overnight stays for everyone living there, creating what the EC describes as tourism pressure.

Zante has not received as many visitors as Malaga, which received 85 million foreign visitors in 2023, but has the most tourists compared to the number of people who actually live on the island.

In comparison, Romanian Teleomans stays the least overnight, so it may be time to start switching between beaches and umbrellas for ceramics and gentle hills.
