Kabango Zambezi, May 16, 2025 – The world's largest land boundary protection area spanning five South African countries, the Kabango Zambezi Transfrontier Conservation Area (Kaza TFCA), has embarked on a landmark branding and marketing strategy to establish itself as an outstanding tourism destination.
Spanning approximately 520,000 square kilometers, the largest adjacent population of Africa's savanna elephants (approximately 228,000 according to an aviation survey in 2022), the Kavangozanbezi TFCA stands as a beacon of conservation, community development and sustainable tourism.
With the launch of the “Rivers of Life” brand and an integrated marketing campaign, Kavango Zambezi TFCA is increasing its position in the global tourism phase. Through strategic partnerships, cutting-edge digital outreach and industry collaboration, Kavango Zambezi aims to promote sustainable tourism while benefiting local communities and enhancing conservation efforts.
To increase visibility and maintain brand consistency, stakeholders are encouraged to integrate destination brand assets into their marketing efforts as part of their co-branding initiatives when promoting Kabangozambezi. These assets are currently available on online brand hubs hosted on the new website (www.uncoverkaza.com/become-a-media-partner) and provide logos, templates and promotional materials to ensure cohesive messaging across all platforms.
“Rivers of Life” brand
Started in 2024 at Principal Kavango Zanbezi in Livingston, Zambia, the “River River” brand embodies the rich biodiversity, cultural heritage and iconic waterways that define this unparalleled landscape. Spanning Angola, Botswana, Namibia, Zambia and Zimbabwe, Kabangozanbezi TFCA has extraordinary wildlife and over 650 species of birds.
“The 'Livers of Life' brand represents more than a new logo. This embodies the essence and unique offering of this extraordinary place. There, five foresightful countries take care of vast protected areas, rich in nature and cultural diversity. Kavango Zambezi TFCA Secretariat.
“Through the brand's revitalization, we are creating a unified voice that tells the story of extraordinary landscapes, its people, its wildlife and its commitment to conservation through tourism.”
Multi-faceted marketing strategies with global reach
Kavango Zambezi's marketing approach, backed by financial support from the German government through KFW, is designed to attract global audiences through a combination of impactful digital strategies, international trade initiatives and terrestrial revitalization efforts.
The key components are:
Deploying dedicated content strategies across social media, travel websites and digital advertising platforms, attracting key target markets along with Kavango Zambezi's wildlife, adventure tourism and cultural experiences. Hosting tour operators' FAM and media trips to instill international journalists and content creators in the heart of Kabango Zambezi, creating compelling stories that showcase the unique selling points of your destination. The presence of Kabangozambezi in major tourism businesses such as ITB Berlin, WTM London and Travel Indaba in Africa promotes partnerships with tour operators, travel agents and media outlets, promoting tourism interest and booking. Stakeholder workshops, webinars and brand application training sessions provide local tourism operators with the tools they need to communicate and work together effectively with the “river” brand.
Collective Tourism Vision for Conservation and Community Interests
Stakeholders across the tourism value chain (government agencies, private sector operators, community parents, and conservation NGOs) are invited to actively participate in the development of Kabangozambezi branding and marketing efforts.
For these marketing tourism products, even if you list your experience on the Kavango Zambezi Destination website, you can directly access avid audiences who are actively seeking information about the region.
The company focused on powerful birdwatching will increase its market presence by becoming an ambassador for the birdwatching route in Great Kabango Zanbezi, and showcase its offerings by participating in trade events and media trips. Additionally, stakeholders will have the opportunity to engage in familiar tours, international trade shows and joint promotional activities that highlight Kavango Zambezi as the best tourist destination.
By actively involved in these resources and initiatives, stakeholders can contribute to the unified global presence of Kabangozanbezi as the best tourist destination, while strengthening their individual businesses.
Through brand partnerships, joint marketing opportunities and integration into international sales channels, stakeholders will play a pivotal role in amplifying the existence of Kavango Zambezi, adds Dr. Nyambe.
“This is a collaborative effort that requires involvement at all levels. From the local community hosting visitors to international tour operators selling destinations, we are creating a unified vision that brings all our benefits.”
Why Kavango Zambezi? Unparalleled destination
Ecological importance and biodiversity
Spanning 520,000 square kilometers across five countries (Angola, Botswana, Namibia, Zambia and Zimbabwe), the Kavango Zambezi TFCA is the largest ground-reserved area on the planet, making even some countries a dwarf. The region protects the largest adjacent herd (estimated at 227,900) of African savanna elephants, a keystone species essential for ecosystem balance. With five major river systems (Kabango, Zambezi, Chobe, Quand and Kahue), Kabangozambezi plays an important role in sustaining life across a vast semi-arid landscape that supports both biodiversity and human communities. Kavango Zambezi boasts over 650 birds, including rare and endangered species such as the Slati white gret, Pel fishing owl and African Pitta. There are major Ramsar sites (internationally important wetlands) such as the Okavango Delta, Buwabuwata National Park, Mudum National Park and Nkasa Rupara National Park, ensuring safe migration routes for a variety of species across multiple ecosystems. Unlike fragmented national parks, Kavango Zambezi offers an uninterrupted landscape, allowing for the movement of free-moving wildlife.
Cultural and Heritage Values
Kavango Zambezi is home to ancient cultures that maintain a deep spiritual and practical connection to the land. Visitors can experience authentic traditions, including local music, dance, storytelling, and crafts passed over generations.
Adventure and sightseeing experiences are unparalleled
Kavango Zambezi offers a unique opportunity to explore five countries on a single trip, experiencing Okavango Delta, Victoria Falls, Chobe National Park and more in one seamless journey. Unlike most safari destinations that focus on gaming on land, Kavango Zambezi's vast river system allows visitors to enjoy boats and mokoro safaris where visitors can observe hippos, crocodiles and birdlife in their natural habitat. Kavango Zambezi supports high predator density, such as lions, leopards, wild dogs, and cheetahs, making it one of the best places to view predators. Visitors can experience walking safari, canoe expeditions, helicopter tours, world-class fishing and create unparalleled adventure options.
Environmental and Conservation Leadership
Kavango Zambezi is a pioneering cross-border conservation that allows wildlife to move around the landscape freely without human-imposed restrictions. The Kavango Zambezi strategy ensures tourism directly benefits conservation and funds natural resource conservation and management efforts. Communities play an important role in managing conservation areas through community protection, enabling economic benefits by protecting wildlife. Kavango Zambezi maintains and restores travel routes, reintroducing wildlife species and rehabilitates degraded landscapes. As climate change threatens the natural landscape of Africa, the swamps, forests and grasslands of Kavango Zambezi act as carbon sinks and help mitigate the impact on the climate while maintaining rural livelihoods. Kavango Zambezi is the result of unprecedented cooperation between five governments, conservation organizations and communities, and is a global benchmark for the success of large-scale conservation.
