The Migration Gravel Race (MGR) is a 4-day, semi-supported stage race at Masai Mara, spanning 650km. Riders tackle singletrack, red clay and sturdy gravel at 1900m altitudes, crossing the village of Masai, plains and mountains. Stage: Grit, Glory, Gravel
Stage 1 – Flat, windy, Shamba land:
Distance: Leopard 150 km -600m | Zebra 120 km -500m
A vast, flat plain with fences, cattle and wildlife trucks.
A powerful headwind and test endurance known as the “Netherlands.”
The sturdy type 4-5 gravel is off to a tough start.
Stage 2 – Mountain Stage / Queen's Stage:
Distance: Leopard 170 km -2200m | Zebra 100 km -1500m
The iconic mountaineering Murima Wa Shetani is followed by a thrilling singletrack descent.
It's a scenic yet harsh ride that passes through the winding trails of Reuta Forest.
Potential wildlife encounters, including elephants, require ranger coordination.
Unpredictable rain can turn the trail into thick black clay.
Stage 3 – Wide Savanna and Fast Gravel:
Distance: Leopard 140 km -1600m | Zebra 100 km -900m
The fast black gravel section allows for faster riding.
Bridge intersections need attention due to hidden dips and holes.
Open Plains with a wealth of wildlife, from Wild Tee Beasts to Gazelles.
Stage 4 – Final Push:
Distance: Leopard 150 km -1100m | Zebra 100 km -750m
The final, tough climb through Reuta Hill before a thrilling descent.
The vast Marathon Plains offer a scenic and rigorous finale.

The Migration Gravel Race not only took part in this tough adventure, but also attracted an impressive lineup of professional cyclists, both excellent male and female. Celebrities such as Laurens Ten Dam, Ian Boswell and David Millar took on challenges alongside rising stars such as Xaverine Nirere. Dutch Powerhouse Becking claimed an overall victory in 2024, with American Sarah Sturm dominating the women's field. Lawrence Naisen won on stage, and Cape Epic 2023 winner Lucas Baum added his name to the elite list of competitors.
