Amid the escalation of tensions in the Middle East, people fear that Britain will not be dragged into war. And if the conflict was Sipral, some wonder if they would be drafted into the army.
Following these concerns, employment professionals share a list of groups of occupations and people who are likely to be exempt from military obligations.
Steph Churro, who specializes in business startups, took him to Tiktok to calm the fears of those who believe the Israeli-Iran conflict would be wider. She believes that these people's cateogears don't need to worry…
1. medical care
The most “obvious” group in Steph's eyes are those facing medical challenges. She explained: “We're talking about people with asthma, mobility issues – whatever stops you from being useful in a war scenario.”
2. Opponents
Steph went on to reveal that she has recently been flooded with “conscientious opponents” seeking advice on where they stand.
“Just because you don't believe in war doesn't mean you're not involved, you're not just going to fight,” she said.
So, the role of providing support to mail, food and health services will require work, Steph added.
3. Protected occupation
Steph believes that people in work, including police, firefighters, train drivers, nuclear scientists and farmers, all fall into this protected category.
She said: “All of these are necessary roles for Britain to maintain in the UK. They will help maintain the functioning of society in the event of war.”
4. Students
Steph pointed out that this might come as a surprise to some, arguing that university admissions could “surge” if the war begins on a wider scale.
“Students don't need to go to war under conscription,” she said.
5. Caregivers
Another “obvious” group, Steph noted that primary caregivers, such as single parents, are not expected to go to war.
6. Over 50's
On the other hand, closing Steph's list is an age-restricted person.
“So you need to be at least 18 years old and just a certain age they decide,” she explained. “This would be realistically about 50. So if you're 30 or 40 and think you're safe, think again.”
But in the last words of wisdom, Steph told him not to panic. That's because conscription must be the law passed by the government first.
“Things seem a little exciting right now in the Middle East, but it's not that I'm not going to be recruited anytime soon for this,” she added.
Writing accordingly, one Tiktok user wrote sarcastically: “I love that the government thinks conscription is going to work. People don't have the same patriotism during World War II. People don't listen to authority blindly as they used to.
Meanwhile, another tried to calm the fear. They added: “Of course, conscription is very unlikely and will require the threat of impending invasion… the military is too small to train large numbers.”
