The 7th International Tourism Film Festival Africa (ITFFA), held at Hotel Sky in Sandton from June 3rd to 6th, is shining a spotlight on the film's growing role in enhancing the attraction of its destinations and promoting economic development. South Africa's position as a global filming destination was Centre Stage, and the discussion discussed how it would contribute to job creation, infrastructure investment and tourism growth across the continent.
James Byrne, co-founder and director of the festival, noted that ITFFA praises its wide range of travel-centric video content, from promotional films and documentaries to blogs and commercials. Since its founding in 2019, the festival has attracted over 4,000 entries from 94 countries, positioning it as a leading platform for Africa's tourism media. This year's event featured Johannesburg film students showing tourist content filmed on smartphones, and saw the continued Young Creative student challenge. The aim of this initiative is to provide career-building opportunities for creative creators in Africa, in line with ITFFA's broader goal of strengthening the continent's creative and tourism industry through innovation, storytelling and collaboration.
