Q1 analysis shows that agent movements have increased nearly 1.7 times over the previous year, with nearly 66% of the total amount generated by agents moving in the first quarter of 2025 coming from the top 25% of production agents.
Important Q1 survey results:
The cap revenue share model benefits business operators, earning 31.1% of those who moved, far outweighing traditional brokerages (19.3%). The high-tech broker claimed the second-highest share of business operators, attracting 22.6% of movers in this high-production category. Traditional brokerages have seen greater retention between enthusiasts and non-production agents, suggesting that production-centric agents are seeking alternative models. The flat fee/fees based brokerages won 14.2% of business operators, but its appeal appears to be levelled compared to previous periods. The lead generation model and independents continue to see modest but stable movements, and the consistency of signaling in niche attraction.
“This data highlights the urgency for brokerage leaders to adjust their value proposition. Mark JohnsonMBA, Managing Partner of Recruiting Insight and Author of the Report. “Models with flexibility, financial benefits and scalable systems win,” Johnson added.
Where “movable middle” progresses
This segment – an agent who still has growth potential rather than a top producer – is increasingly targeting growth-oriented brokerages. Q1 Data Display:
Tech-enabled brokerages increased 26.7% from 22%, which earned 23.8% from 22% in the fourth quarter of 2024. Traditional brokerages account for just 19.7% of mobile middle movers, continuing their multi-quarter decline.
Mediated Takeout: Mobility and Agility are Acquiring Strategy
Jay TeleshiVice President of Back Office Sales and Strategy, pointing to gaps in opportunity, both in the “moving middle” where both business operators and the “moving middle” support a particular model. There is a risk that recruitment and retention strategies will lose production to more agile competitors. ”
