Indian operator Indigo initially places the capacity of a wet North Atlantic Boeing 787 on the Delhi Bangkok route.
According to Indigo, the 787-9 lease is part of the “internationalization strategy” ahead of next year's long-distance Airbus A321XLRS and the 2027 A350.
The first 787 will be deployed in the Bangkok sector from March 1st, where regulations are subject to confirmation.
Indigo offers “stretch” business class products on daily flights. The 787 consists of 56 “stretch” seats, and the economy cabin has 282 seats.
“The early adoption of our widebody aircraft is a key milestone in our journey,” says CEO Peter Elbers.
He says that the focus of his career will then be “transitioning to Europe” around the summer.
Indigo says it will “continue to explore opportunities” to sign up for additional aircraft.
“As India's aviation sector undergoes rapid changes and meets unprecedented growth in travel demand, Indigo is well positioned to lead this expansion,” Elbers says.
