Indigo has revealed the composition and deployment of the future fleet of the Airbus A321XLR. The first fleet will be handed over to low-cost operators in 2026.
In a briefing slide released on March 19, Indigo said the A321XLRS is a two-class arrangement, with 12 business class seats known as “Indigo Stretch” and 183 economic seats.
The A321XLR forms part of the 300 aircraft order indigo deployed in 2019. This also includes a mix of A320Neos and A321Neos.
Indigo plans to deploy the A321XLR on the Asian and European routes, but says it will be stopped except for a list of specific cities. However, the airline says the A321XLRS can operate “underserved international routes” for up to 8.5 hours.
With 195 seats, the A321XLR configuration has a lower density layout compared to Indigo's two-class A321neos, which seat 220 passengers.
Indigo currently operates 13 two-class A321neos, deploying them to domestic flights between some of India's largest cities. The Indigo Stretch product, released in August 2024, features a 38-inch seat pitch and consists of a 2-2 layout.
