The planning of a key project in northern Croatia aims to improve the connectivity between the cities of Balajdin and Chakobek. The project will include the expansion of existing state roads and the construction of a brand new bridge across the Drava River, one of the longest tributaries of the Danube.
The project is set to cost around 90,000 euros, including VAT (£76,800), and is expected to be completed within just one year. The new bridge will run parallel to the existing bridge, and the current DC3 road will expand to a four-lane route that stretches from Valajuddin to Gornji Kušanec’s newly planned roundabout. The planned road and bridge infrastructure total length will be approximately 1.2 miles.
Once completed, the current bridge will continue to provide vehicles from Varaždin to Nedelišche, while the new bridge will handle traffic in the opposite direction.
According to Bauštela.HR, following the contract signed with HRVATSKE CESTE (Roads in Croatia) on April 8, the first conceptual design and location permit will be developed by a joint team led by Knap and Eptisa Adria.
With dense urban developments on both sides of the existing road, the project also includes a complete reconfiguration of the current route and the addition of two new roadways.
Detailed planning and research, including environmental impact assessments, should be carried out before work can begin. That being said, the project has already received environmental approval from the ministry, provided that all necessary safeguards have already been followed.
Valazine is located 50 miles north of the capital Zagreb and as of 2021, it houses around 44,000 residents. It is famous for its Baroque buildings, music, textiles and IT industries. The impressive Valagin Town Hall building was built in 1793 in a classicist style. Interestingly, Balaendin was actually the capital of Croatia for a short time in the 1750s.
Meanwhile, Chakobek is about 56 miles north of Zagreb, near the border between Slovenia and Hungary. It is the largest city in Meimrue County and the most densely populated city in Croatia. Undoubtedly its most striking feature is Chakobek Castle, a medieval fortress in Zlinsky Park near the central square. Today it houses the nation’s largest museum in the Maymrue County. The atrium will host outdoor theatres throughout the summer.
This is not the only major infrastructure project ongoing in Croatia. The huge road infrastructure project near Sorin in Dalmatia, Croatia, is steadily moving towards completion.
Located in a village of the same name, Mravince Interchange is part of the first phase of its major development aimed at mitigating traffic in the region, the second largest city in Croatia, the town and suburban division.
