Tourism across Asia is increasing with countries such as Thailand and Vietnam boasting picturesque scenery, stunning beaches and warm weather, reaching up to 34C in May. But there are other countries that some tourists say even better.
Cambodia is a small but beautiful country surrounded by Thailand, Laos and Vietnam. Last year, the country welcomed 6.7 million tourists, significantly fewer than neighboring Vietnam, with 17.58 million and Thailand over 35.5 million. Despite both countries seeing a boom in tourism numbers, tourists have branded Cambodia as a better destination than both. On Reddit, FZ3N raised the question, “Why Cambodia for the ex-existence of Bangkok and Vietnam?”
They added: “After visiting Cambodia (Phnom Penh), I struggle to see its own advantage over neighbouring countries Vietnam or Bangkok for tourism, foreign life, or investment. Am I missing something?
But many responded quickly on reasons as to why a stunning country beat its neighbors.
One said: “The Cambodians are even more lovely people, and despite the best efforts of the government in recent years, they have a natural nature that is not actually the case in Vietnam or Thailand.”
Another addition: “I've only had a few weeks in Cambodia and I have to say they were much more friendly than in Thailand or Vietnam. They weren't good, but I felt more welcome in Cambodia.
Costs of living were also highlighted among Reddit users, highlighting the simplicity of securing a visa or work permit.
Having a small portion of the amount of tourists as a neighbour, travelers can enjoy experiencing Camodia's vibrant culture and warm sunlight without crowds. The country has a variety of beaches where visitors can smoke the tropical sun.
Health and relationships are two important things across Southeast Asia and Cambodia. Cambodia boasts a number of unique massage therapy traditions available in a variety of spas scattered throughout the country.
Cambodia also houses the Angkor Wat Temple Complex, known as the world's largest religious monument. The Unseco World Heritage site is rated as the country's most prominent landmark with 4.8 stars on TripAdvisor.
One visitor said, “Watching the sunrise in Angkor Wat was an unforgettable experience. It is totally worth it to arrive early to find a good place. It is magic that changes the sky, it is calm and powerful, and is reflected in the water to truly adore. This is a siem reap!
