“I'm an airport baggage handler – why should I not tie the ribbon to your suitcase?” | Travel News | Travel

Waiting for luggage in airport luggage can feel like a lifetime, especially when all the bags look the same.

There are many different ways to make your bags different from others, and many choose the ribbon method.

Tie a small, colorful bow around the handle of your suitcase and it may seem like a simple and effective way to know which bag is yours. However, travelers have been warned against this.

Baggage handlers at Dublin Airport advise flyers to urge flyers that they can do more harm than good, and to cut out habits.

Speaking to RSVP Live, airport worker John said:

“If the bag cannot be scanned automatically, it may end up being a manual process. This could mean that the bag will not reach the flight.”

John also sought enthusiastic flyers to “remove old stickers from the bag” as it could cause “confusion with the scanning process.”

Baggage handlers also shared other useful tips for travel, advised to place the wheels to prevent the suitcase from getting damaged.

John also revealed one sweet treat that you should avoid packing your luggage completely – Marzipan.

Because of the thick paste made from almonds, sugar and eggs, it is thought to have the same density as certain explosives.

Another travel advisor warns not only about suitcases that holiday makers need to consider at the airport, but it also affects what you're wearing.

Mari, who regularly shares travel advice on her Tiktok account, explained that the issue is not just one type of clothing, but instead about the material from which your clothing is made.

Experts have urged people not to wear “synthetic materials” on their planes.

If an emergency occurs on your plane and a fire occurs, the synthetic fibers can become even more dangerous as they can melt into your skin and cause a relaxed, severe burn.

In a social media post, she said: “That doesn't mean that natural fiber clothing doesn't cause burns or fire. That means that synthetic fiber materials cause burns at a higher speed.”
