If you've ever been lost on your holiday, you know it can be stressful. Wandering around the city of unfamiliar destinations is exhilarating and if it's not ideal if booked bookings are reserved, you can explore.
That's why travel expert Neil Atkinson, owner of Luxury Group Stay, shares his best tips on never getting lost – it's all about going to old school. Neil said: “Downloading offline maps of areas you are traveling is one of the most important travel hacks I always recommend. It's totally free and saves hours of stress, whether you're exploring the Lake District or wandering around Barcelona.”
If you find yourself without data mapping where you go, this will save you time and stress.
Make sure you downloaded the map while you have an internet connection. Neil said:
There are drawbacks, but they are minor. Neil said: “You get driving instructions only when offline and not public transport routes, and you don't see real-time traffic updates.”
Offline maps do not take up much storage for cities and local areas, so you don't have to worry about space when downloading them.
Neil's final tip is to make sure you have what you need before you leave. He said: “Download a larger area than you think you need. When you're not anywhere, it's better to have too many maps than too few!”
Use these steps to download the map.
Open Google Maps app on your iPhone or Android device
Tap the profile picture in the top right corner
Select “Offline Maps” and “Choose your own map”
Adjust the blue box to cover your destination
Click (Download) to set it
