New commitments from French and European government authorities and industries accelerated progress towards zero patients, promoted net zero carbon emissions and global air connectivity, resulting from ICAO Council visits to France.
With the invitation of the French government and support from the grouping Des Industries Françaises Aéronautiqueset Spatiales (GIFAS), ICAO leadership took part in the Paris Air Show and held a series of high-level conferences in Paris and Toulouse.
The discussion between French Transport Minister Philip Tabarotto, ICAO Council President Salvatore Sciaccitano and ICAO Secretary General Juan Carlos Salazar focused on measures to strengthen the partnership in accordance with ICAO's strategic goals.
The organization's priorities were further highlighted in the “Industry and Innovation Day,” followed by a series of high-level engagements with aviation industry leaders on artificial intelligence.
ICAO also signed a new training fellowship program agreement with the French Civil Aviation Authority (DGAC).
The new ICAO-Airbus Partnership supports innovation and sustainable aviation
ICAO concluded a new memorandum with Airbus at its headquarters in Toulouse, following its activities at its International Paris Air Show. The agreement establishes a framework for collaboration in key areas, including capacity development, technical support, sustainable aviation fuels, and ICAO's new Finvest hub, as well as initiatives aimed at fostering the next generation of aviation professionals and strengthening women in aviation.
ICAO's leadership praised Airbus' commitment to sustainable aviation development, highlighting the potential of this new partnership to increase sustainability, drive innovation, strengthen resilience across the aviation ecosystem, and make a lasting contribution to the future of air transport.
European regulators will strengthen regional cooperation
The Director of Civil Aviation Bureau (DGCA) of Europe, Central Asia and North Africa met in Paris on June 17, 2025 for the EUR/NAT DGCA conference. The event has convened over 100 aviation leaders from 50 states, including partner states, under the theme of “Moving aviation through people and partnerships.” The conference renewed decisions on concrete action and commitment to deeper engagement and cooperation across the EUR/NAT region.
During the lawsuit, Council President Sciacchitano and Secretary-General Salazar emphasized the strength and diversity of the “EUR/NAT region.” They highlighted how the region, spanning Europe, the North Atlantic, Central Asia and North Africa, has strong capabilities to implement ICAO's 2026-2050 strategic plan.
Several bilateral involvement and agreements regarding bystanders of the event further strengthened the ICAO's strategic priorities.
Bilateral meetings with Azerbaijan, Georgia and Kazakhstan will raise specific cooperation initiatives and the signing of a new annex to the memorandum between ICAO and the United Arab Emirates has been set up to enhance implementation support for the interests of the EUR/NAT province with prioritization needs.
The development of France during the ICAO mission reflects the important support from national and European stakeholders for the organization's global vision and strategic goals for the future of air transport.
