A walk just a 15-minute walk from the famous Sandy Shores, Jackson Bay offers a gentle escape as a spring bloomer. Protected from the wind and boasting untouched coastal views, this dog-friendly shelter is perfect for enjoying the weather and experiencing the stunning sunsets. The bay features public toilets, small coffee houses and wooden saunas.
It's an idyllic place to picnic, sunbathe, or simply rewind. It is accessible via scenic coastal strolls surrounding the headland from Whitmore Bay on Clements Collie Walk. It is recommended that you check the tide time as routes may not always pass at high tide. Alternatively, a steep path down a rich red sandstone cliff leads to this hidden cove. Parking at Redbrink Crescent is restricted and there are several free 2-hour spots at the top of the stairs. Alternatively, Nell's Point Car Park is within walking distance.
Barry Island Station is only 10 minutes' walk from train travellers.
Located near the Barry Yachty Club and Lifeboat Station, The Knotty Yachty Hut serves a variety of snacks including local coffee from Welsh Coffee Company, dogs, panini, tea, hot chocolate, smoothies, milkshakes, pastries, cakes, hot dogs, sausage rolls and sausage rolls. The shed is open Wednesday through Sunday from 8:30am to 2:30pm and during peak season from 8:30am to 4:30pm.
Nearby Sandy Bay is perfect for dipping all year round in the sea. You can then warm up with Môra Sauna. The sauna is a wood sauna that offers wonderful views and shelter from the elements. The quiet sauna can accommodate up to 10 people and can be booked for private or joint sessions.
Prices for a 55-minute session range from £12 for joint sessions to £100 for private employment, with opening hours varying throughout the week. Founded last July, the sauna also offers cold plunge pools and cold showers to promote high temperature and cold contrast therapies.
I have had a variety of experiences, including quiet sessions, wellness Wednesdays, saunas, silent disco sessions and more. Membership options are also available to those who become regular visitors.
Despite not looking more lively than Whitmore Bay, Jackson Bay is far from insufficient activity. Thanks to its proximity to the Bally Yacht Club, it hosts stand-up paddleboard lessons and offers great opportunities for rock pools and beach sports.
Barry's main beach is widely known, but Jackson's Bay remains a hidden treasure, offering a more tranquil beach experience.
