American public health experts Alyssa and Josh Raxin moved to Rwanda on their honeymoon in 2006 and never left. Inspired by the work of volunteers who teach volunteer work, Alyssa decided to build a restaurant to provide vocational training, contribute to economic development, and build a profession to create opportunities for self-sufficiency. The Heaven Restaurant opened on May 16, 2008 (17 years ago) and quickly became known as the centre of Kigali hospitality's excellence, using a unique, practical and practical approach to training. As Rwanda grew, so did heaven. In 2011, Heaven opened its first boutique hotel. Today, there are 28 rooms and are consistently ranked among the top 5 hotels in Kigali. In 2013, Josh published a memoir of Alyssa's experiences. Hill to Heaven: Love, Hope, Growth of the heavenly brand entitled Rwandan Restaurants. Just as Alyssa witnessed the exciting opening of an internationally renowned luxury resort in northern Rwanda, Kigali decided that it deserves a luxury boutique hotel for its talented tourists, including Kinigi's only one, Wilderness Bisate, Singita. In 2018, Alyssa opened Retreat, a 20-room Kigali 5-star luxury boutique hotel that includes eight super luxurious pool villas and tables, plus fine dining, fusion and a new farm. To date, Heaven and Retreat have trained and recruited over 3,500 Rwandas in hospitality, having a lasting impact on the community and tourism sector. The facility hosts high-profile high-ranking officials, including King Charles and Princess Camilla, who have visited Rwanda.
