Located in the northeastern UK, the town is home to the world's largest cherry blossom tree.
Next to Alnwick Castle in Northumberland, the Alnwick Garden features 329 of these stunning trees and blooms for up to two weeks between April and May. Sun cherry blossoms, also known as “Great White,” are famous for their long 7cm clusters of snow-like flowers, as described on the Alnwick Garden website.
Social media user Olivia, also known as The Notorist, shared a fascinating video from Tiktok. The 7-second clip reveals a narrow path surrounded by sun cherry trees and an attractive swing bench where visitors can sit and take picturesque views.
According to the Alnwick Garden website, the history of these traditionally Japanese trees is fascinating. “In 1926, Captain Collingwood Ingram (“Cherry” Ingram) was invited to Japan to give a lecture to Sakurai (Cherry Society). In 1899, the lost taihaku in 1932 was reintroduced into Japan. ”
All the sun cherry trees grown today are descendants of that single tree found in Sussex. In autumn, the leaves of the snakes change to “beautiful copper” and in Japan, cherry blossoms retain “deep cultural significance” and represent the beauty and vulnerability of life.
The Tailhaku boasts large, icy white flowers that bloom from pink buds in April. According to the decorative tree, these flowers are larger than most decorative cherry blossoms and have earned the nickname “Great White Cherry.”
Garden Tree Company further explains: “The medium-sized cherry tree, Prunus “Taihaku”, has grown to 6 x 5 meters in 20 years and has a rounded habit. Suitable for most well-dry soils. It is pollution resistant in urban environments.
In addition to the cherry blossom trees of the Taylake, Alnwick Garden also has a poisonous garden. This garden has about 100 toxic, intoxicating, drug plants.
Visitors are strictly prohibited from smelling, touching or tasting any of these plants. The Poison Garden is fixed behind a black iron gate and can only be visited on a guided tour.
In the caption of her Tiktok video posted on April 20th, Olivia urged: “It's the flowering season in the @alnwick garden. It's not long to catch this sight! I think there's about a week left in the petals.
“Alnwick Garden boasts the world's largest collection of sun cherry blossom flowers. When it's blooming, it's a breathtaking sight. It's a sea of stunning white petals. Outside of flower time, the garden is spectacular, but now it's an unparalleled time to visit!”
Olivia's post captivated over 100 Tiktok users and sparked comments that compared the garden to paradise. Several users cried out, “It imagines how heaven looks… so beautiful”, “Omuggosh. Imagine what heaven looks like” and “So incredible, heaven idea.”
