Former Aviation Staff (CAS) Chief Hassan Abubakar, former Aviation Staff (CAS), took over as chairman of the African Air Force Association (AAAF), urging the need for Africa-led solutions to continental security challenges.
This was included in a statement made available to defense correspondents by adjutant from service spokesman Orsola F. Akinboyewa.
Speaking at the African Air Chiefs' Symposium held in Zambia from February 16th to 22nd this year, CAS highlighted the importance of regional cooperation and strategic partnerships in strengthening Africa's air force capabilities and addressing common threats.
Ambassador Abubakar stressed that strengthening cooperation between the African Air Forces is important to tackle new security challenges such as terrorism, rebellion and cross-border crime. He also highlighted the role of strategic partnerships with allies and international organizations, increasing capacity, improving interoperability and advances in technological innovation in the aerospace business.
According to the CAS, the AAAF symposium was more than just a mental encounter, but it was a demonstration of its commitment to a safer, safer and more prosperous Africa. “Our collaboration is a powerful reminder of the importance of finding African solutions to African problems,” he added.
The new AAAF president outlined key tenure priorities, including the full operationalization of the association and strengthening Africa-led humanitarian and disaster response (HADR) operations.
He further assured members of Nigeria's commitment to provide a successful symposium for African Air Chiefs in 2026.
The Abubakar Airlines sought new commitments from all member states and emphasized that unity and cooperation remains important to achieve the Association's objectives.
The appointment of AAAF Chairman of CAS in Nigeria highlights the role of the NAF leadership and the expansion of the capacity of the region.
The statement added that based on the outstanding success of the third edition held in Abuja in 2024, the NAF has been commissioned to hold the fourth edition of the African Air Force Forum (AAF) once again.
According to it, “This shows an important record as Nigeria will be the first country to host two consecutive editions of the event.
“The 4th AAF, scheduled to be held in Lagos from May 21st to 23rd, 2025, focuses on the theme of “Advanced Aerospace Technologies for Enhanced National and Regional Security.”
“The decision by organizer Great Minds Events Management LLC is once again to entrust the NAF, as it highlights the host's ability to demonstrate Nigeria's increased influence in regional air force debates and its ability to promote high levels of NAF engagement.
“The AAF brings together key stakeholders, including aviation chiefs, defense experts and industry leaders, to explore cutting-edge advances in aerospace technology and roles in enhancing security across Africa.”
The AAAF is a non-political organization dedicated to strengthening air force capabilities and cooperation between African countries.
